Winlator, a new emulator available for download on GitHub, lets you run your favorite PC games on your Android device, even if they were not originally designed for Android.
The application does this using Wine, a compatibility layer that allows Windows applications to run on non-Windows operating systems, and Box86/Box64, a Wine branch specifically designed to run x86_64 applications on ARM processors.
It is very easy to install the application on your phone. You need to download and install the APK from GitHub Releases. After installing the APK, you need to download the OBB file (main.1.com.winlator.obb) and put it in the /storage/emulated/0/Android/obb/com.winlator directory. If the folder is missing, you can create one manually. After completing these steps, launch the application and wait for the installation process to finish.
While the app has shown some positive results in games like Deus Ex, Hitman 2, and Far Cry 2, the frame rates aren’t particularly impressive. One Reddit user says they were able to achieve a fairly stable 40fps on most maps in Trackmania Nations.
