Technology giant Apple is working to solidify its presence in the health sector with some new services for consumers. Apple’s Apple Watch Series 8 smartwatches featured a new temperature sensor to monitor the user’s menstrual cycle. watchOS 9.4 brought A-Fib to more territories and improved cycle tracking.

Now, Apple is working on its latest service, codenamed Quartz, an AI-powered health coaching service aimed at tracking emotions.

According to rumors, this feature is planned to be available with iPadOS 17 and iOS 17. Quartz helps users track their exercise, eating and sleeping habits. These tracking capabilities can motivate users to improve their habits and daily lifestyles. Powering this data with artificial intelligence helps create personalized healthcare solutions. In addition, all these features seem to attract more users to the paid-only service.

Apple has previously worked with the Singapore government on a similar service called LumiHealth. The biggest difference of Quartz is that it is a paid service, but Apple has not yet made a statement on the subject.

Apple plans to expand its health products and services to more devices by making the health app primarily available on iPads. Initially, mood data will be entered manually by users, but Apple plans to eventually assess mood conditions by monitoring typing, speaking, and other data on the devices users are using. There are also concerns that this could be a serious privacy issue for users.

In addition to tracking emotions, Apple also brings a vision management feature and is working on noninvasive sugar (glucose) tracking. This technology will allow diabetics to passively monitor their glucose levels throughout the day without piercing their fingers.
