At the end of the spring/summer 2023 runway show at the end of Paris Fashion Week, fashion brand Coperni put on an unexpected show, taking an almost naked model to the runway and spraying a dress on her before she started her walk.
At the show, which featured world-famous model Bella Hadid, the dress was made from Fabrican, a material that cures into a wearable fabric form after being sprayed, according to Vogue. Attendees watched as the technicians surrounded Hadid and sprayed the fabric over her body in the form of a dress as she walked down the runway.
Vogue Business says that Fabrican is a liquid made of cotton or synthetic fiber that adheres to the body after being sprayed, and can be removed and reconstituted into a liquid form.
Fabrican is also the name of the company that developed the material, founded by Coperni co-founders Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, and designer and scientist Manel Torres, who spent six months creating the material.
It doesn’t look like we’ll have access to Fabrican anytime soon, though. “We’re not going to make any money out of this,” Meyer said in an interview with Vogue Business, saying it was only used in the show to create a moment that stirs up emotions.
