We all know the saying that you won’t even trust your father at this time; but it seems it is not right for fathers to trust their children these days. A terrible event in the USA is a very good example of this situation.

According to the news of The Washington Post, it was revealed that a young man living in Bethesda, Maryland, USA, poisoned his father in order to get his hands on his crypto money assets. Noting that his main goal was not to poison his father, but only to ‘make himself unconscious’, the young man reportedly has a drug problem and an obsession with crypto assets.

Ghershony began to exhibit paranoid behavior about cryptocurrencies

24-year-old Liam Ghershony and his father raised $350,000 in after-tax cash through a crypto investment account in 2018; however, after this incident, Ghershony’s drug problems began to increase. After a while, Ghershony became paranoid about cryptoassets and constantly said that he needed to sell crypto.

Ghershony, who wanted to confiscate the crypto asset that was worth $400,000 at the time, made a spur of the moment decision to poison his father with an antidepressant. Ghershony, who added sedative drugs and a benzodiazepine, a drug group related to Xanax, to his father’s tea, stated in his note that things did not have to come to this point and that he would give his father the best ‘retirement’.

Ghershony, who later stated that he did not want to kill his father, but only wanted to knock him out, noted that he realized too late that his father’s resistance to these drugs was different from his own. Fortunately, Ghershony’s father, who was found unconscious on the ground two days after the poisoning, recovered after 4 days of treatment at the hospital.

Ghershony sentenced to 125 days in prison

Ghershony, who had no prior criminal record, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault after reaching a settlement. Sentenced to 125 days in prison, Ghershony spent the next two months in drug and mental health rehabilitation.

As this incident illustrates, the combination of drug addiction and a growing obsession with cryptocurrencies can have dangerous consequences. Rehabilitation clinics, which are aware of this recently, have started to offer treatment services for people to cope with their addiction to crypto money.
