A citizen named Anil Koppula filed a lawsuit against the hospital on the grounds that he was encouraged to watch his wife’s birth and suffered psychological harm. He accused the hospital of disrupting his psychology and causing him to develop a “psychotic illness”.

In 2018, Anil Koppula’s wife decides to give birth by caesarean section. She goes to a hospital called “Royal Women’s Hospital” in Melbourne with her husband and waits for her husband’s birth process. However, the hospital staff allow the man to watch the birth process and encourage him to do so.

Koppula claims that the psychotic illness after birth damaged her marriage and is suing the hospital for 643 thousand US dollars.

Koppula’s wife’s cesarean section was successful, but the hospital administration’s encouragement to watch the surgery and following the process from start to finish caused psychological damage to Koppula. At least that’s what he claims.

He claimed that he saw his wife’s organs and blood during the surgery and that these images caused him a “psychotic illness”. He subsequently filed a lawsuit for damages worth approximately 1 million Australian dollars. The judge in the case, James Gorton, dismissed the case and said it was an abuse of process. The hearing proceedings also included the process of Koppula receiving medical support. However, it was concluded that the alleged psychological effect on Koppula was insufficient.
