The effects of the global climate crisis and the decrease in water resources day by day have begun to be felt all over the world. The biggest example of this situation in our country is the giant sinkholes in Konya. As a result of the drought in the Konya Plain and the unconscious use of groundwater, the number of sinkholes exceeded 2,000.

Giant sinkholes continue to form in various parts of the world as well as in our country. The last of the sinkholes that appeared in the world appeared in Chile. Chilean authorities have brought the pothole that emerged in a mining area in the north of the country under investigation.

No material was found at the bottom of the sinkhole.

This mysterious sinkhole, which suddenly appeared on the mining site operated by Canada-based Lundin Madencilik, is located approximately 665 km north of Chile’s capital, Santiago. It is estimated that the giant sinkhole is 200 meters deep and 25 meters wide. Sharing aerial images of the sinkhole, the authorities continue their investigations on the sinkhole that emerged in a mining area in the Copiapo region.

Chilean Geological and Mining Authority Sernageomin announced that they received news of the formation of the sinkhole on Saturday and sent a survey to the region. Director of the mining institution, David Montenegro, said in a statement that they did not find any material at the bottom of the 200-meter-long sinkhole, but they found plenty of water.
