Apple talked about how iOS 16 will improve the gaming experience with updated Metal 3 graphics, Game Center improvements, and more at the WWDC 2022 event the other day. As 9to5Mac reports, it looks like iOS 16 will now offer support for more third-party game controllers, particularly Nintendo’s Joy-Con and Pro controllers.

Developer Riley Testut has discovered that it can play games with Nintendo Switch Joy-Con and Pro controllers on iPhones and iPads with the latest iOS 16 beta. Also, according to internal code detected by 9to5Mac, this update also supports 8Bitdo, BADA MOGA XP5-X Plus and Logitech F710 Gamepad controllers.

iOS 16 lets you pair Joy-Cons as a single controller or separately, and lets you customize the controls in Bluetooth settings. You can even dynamically switch between using the Joy-Cons as a single joystick or as two separate joysticks by holding down the screenshot and home buttons.

Apple will also be able to add support for more controllers without the need to ship a new iOS version with the help of a feature called “mobile assets”.
