A green in health technology: Smart watches will soon determine symptoms of heart failure!

Smart watches continue at full speed in the field of health. A new study has shown that these devices may detect symptoms of congestive heart failure (CHF). The new method developed at the University of Tampere will analyze the rhythm changes in heartbeat and allow early diagnosis of the disease.

The study at the University of Tampere offers a analysis system that can detect symptoms of heart failure with information received from smart watches and heart rate monitors.

90 %accuracy with smart watches with heart failure detection

The new formula will help to determine the discomfort with heart failure and atrial fibrillation (amnesty) by valuing the difference (RR range) in the middle of the heartbeat. In the study, the accuracy of the eliminated system was tested on healthy individuals and atrial fibrillation patients. Compared to the results published in the Heart Rhythm O2 magazine, the formula reached 90 %sensitivity and 92 %specificity. This shows that the system can greatly determine the symptoms of heart failure.

Last year, just like the research group, using smart watches had developed a way to predict the risk of sudden heart stop. The new study shows that these devices can be used not only for health tracking, but also for early diagnosis of important diseases.
