A First in Human History: Human Embryo Developed Without Sperm and Egg

Scientists have managed to carry the success they had previously achieved on mice to humans. For the first time in history, a completely artificial human embryo has been developed.

The scientific world has achieved great success in medicine in recent years, and has even succeeded in producing artificial mouse embryos as well as artificial organs. Moreover, one of these embryos produced from stem cells continued to be developed even outside the womb.

Today, news has come from the world of science that will rekindle ethical debates on the one hand and start a new era in the history of humanity, on the other. For the first time in history, human embryos were produced from stem cells alone, without the use of sperm or eggs.

A human embryo without eggs and sperm has been created!

The new achievement was announced at the conference of the International Society for Stem Cell Research in Boston, by Prof. Dr. Cambridge University and California Institute of Technology. Dr. Announced by Magdalena Żernicka-Goetz. Goetz summed up his success as follows:

“By reprogramming cells, we can create human embryo-like models.”

Goetz and his team have yet to publish their research into their work. But for now, some details about the development of the embryo have been shared.

During this time, the embryo has grown to a stage called “gastrulation”, where the most basic building blocks of the body begin to form.

At this stage, the embryo does not yet have a beating heart or a brain. However, the existence of primitive cells, which are the feet of the formation of egg and sperm cells, was observed.

Another striking aspect of the research: Science has exceeded the pace of law!

What does it mean? Before legislators and regulators outright banned or allowed artificial human embryos, the scientific community succeeded in creating fully artificial human embryos.

While there are no regulations for artificial human embryos, there are some regulations for natural embryos grown in vitro. The most important of these is that a natural embryo can be grown in a laboratory environment for only 14 days.

As we finish our article, let us remind you again: This embryo developed without any mating events, without even using egg or sperm cells, only through human stem cells. The whole world will now follow up to what stage the embryo can develop.
