Chandrayaan-3’s lander, which India sent to the Moon’s south pole, has released its first data. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), which landed in this difficult region of the Moon, recently shared the temperature profile of the Moon’s south pole. Here are the details!
The temperature at the Moon’s south pole has dropped to minus 10 degrees Celsius!
India made a successful landing on the Moon’s south pole with Chandrayaan-3’s lander Vikram. However, the first information came from the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). On Vikram was a system called “ChaSTE” that measures the thermal conductivity and temperature of the Moon.
ISRO shared the information they obtained thanks to this system. In the post, it was stated that the temperature recorded at a depth of 8 centimeters on the surface of the Moon fell to minus 10 degrees Celsius. In addition, there were statements that an increase in temperature can be observed as we approach the surface.
The temperature above the surface was recorded at 50-60 degrees Celsius. Regarding these data, ISRO stated that this is the first time such a profile has been made for the Moon’s south pole. In the light of this shared information, it was said that it would enable scientists to “understand the thermal behavior of the lunar surface”.
India with the successful landing of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft; The United States became the fourth country to land on the Moon, after Russia and China. It was the first country to land near the south pole of the Moon. One of the most important goals of the Chandrayaan-3 mission was to demonstrate that it could navigate the lunar surface.
Another purpose was to make scientific observations. This aim still continues. The landing craft and reconnaissance vehicle are adequately equipped for scientific observation. As a result of this process, they will send back the information they have obtained about the Moon’s atmosphere, soil structure and minerals. As a result of the observations, it will be possible to have a lot of information about the unexplored south pole of the Moon.
