Last November, some areas in the northern part of England became the address of power cuts that lasted for days. The electricity distribution company, which is responsible for this region, has also started to provide compensation to its customers who have been victimized in the region where the electricity was cut off due to the storm. But the amount of compensation given in check was trillions of dollars.
Northern Powergrid, the electricity distribution company, wrote 13-digit checks, ie trillions of dollars, to 74 customers who suffered from power outages. So much so that one of these checks was worth approximately $3.1 trillion. Of course, the company had not knowingly issued trillions of dollars in checks to customers affected by the power outages.
The numbers on the electricity meters and the payment numbers are confused:
According to the statement made by the company spokesperson, the 13-digit checks had turned into this due to a typo. Accordingly, the payment amount was mistakenly confused with the number on the electricity meters. The spokesperson stated that the error continues to be investigated, and that they void all written checks as soon as the error is discovered.
On the other hand, the company announced that it has made compensation payments to nearly 30 thousand households that were aggrieved due to the said cuts. After the interruptions, which are stated to have been caused by a storm of unprecedented severity in the last 15 years, the company announced that new checks with the correct payment amount will be sent soon to its 74 customers, to which it sent trillion-dollar checks.
