Accustomed to being unbeatable, Google now has to face artificial intelligence competition from Microsoft and OpenAI. The latest news is that Samsung may give up Google as the default search engine on its devices and return to Microsoft Bing, and even this possibility is said to have put Google in a “panic mood”.

Of course, Google doesn’t just sit back in panic. The internet giant is reportedly working on building an “all new” search engine powered by artificial intelligence.

As The New York Times reports, the company has launched efforts to create a search service that will try to guess what you want from it, with the goal of providing a much more personalized experience. It is stated that this project does not have a clear timetable. However, it is stated that Google is also developing new AI features for the existing search engine under the codename “Magi”.

Among the features Google is developing is a chatbot that can answer software engineering questions and generate code snippets. The company has also experimented with a feature that allows people to search for music via a chatbot conversation. The company has commissioned more than 160 employees for the redesign, The Times reported.

Searchalong is coming to Chrome

Other new capabilities in development include a Chrome feature called “Searchalong”. This feature allows the chatbot to scan the web page you are reading to present contextual information. For example, if you’re looking for a place to stay during your vacation, you can ask the chatbot to tell you what to see and do near your planned accommodation. “GIFI” and “Tivoli Tutor” among other experimental features allow users to create images from Google Image Search and ask them to chat with a chatbot to learn a new language. It may be worth noting that many of these are features that Google has promoted in the past or that exist on other platforms such as Duolingo. For example, the rendering capability is already in Slights.

Google is reportedly planning to announce Magi next month ahead of the new features. So it can be predicted that the project will appear in I/O 2023. Planned to expand to 30 million users by the end of the year, Magi will be available primarily to one million users in the US.
