Google has introduced two new badges in its Chrome web store. Two new badges appearing alongside Chrome extensions, one Featured and the other Best Publisher, are both now available in the Chrome Web Store. These badges aim to help users stay safe and find the best plugins more easily.
Google says the Featured badge is awarded to publishers who offer the technically best plugins and promise a great user experience. Before issuing a badge, Google manually evaluates plugins and checks if they are using the latest platform APIs.
With the Good Publisher badge, users will be able to see that certain publishers have been authenticated. Recipients of the badge are also shown to have a consistently positive track record with Google services and are compliant with the Developer Program Policy.
Google says none of the badges can be purchased by publishers. To get them, publishers need to apply and nominate plugins via their support page. Thus, badge applications independently reviewed by Google will be effective in keeping users safe and using the best plugins.
