Aliens are high on the agenda right now, with potential extraterrestrial encounters being debated in the US Congress. Whatever you personally believe about the possibility of alien visitation, the sheer amount of dubious evidence used to support their existence cannot be denied. This evidence is not about whether there is alien life, but about efforts to produce evidence for its existence. Especially when it comes to antiquities, this search for evidence increases significantly. One example is the Dropa stones, which allegedly record an ancient alien crash. However, when we come to the information about these stones, it may be useful to prepare yourself for the unexpected.

Dropa stones and facts

First of all, we need to make it clear that these stones are not real archaeological discoveries. In fact, no one has even proven that they really exist, and there are thousands of fakes floating around. These are prime examples of pseudo-archaeological evidence used to support extreme beliefs that reject accepted archaeological interpretations and methods. But still, it may be important to at least examine the story behind their supposed truth, as it helps us reject the unsubstantiated claims of less intelligent sources.

According to a popular story, in 1938 Chinese archaeologists discovered caves in the Bayan Kara-Ula mountains, on the border of China and Tibet. These caves contained rows of burials containing the remains of tiny humanoids measuring 120 centimeters across with extremely large heads. In another cave, archaeologists have found cave drawings depicting helmeted beings allegedly connected by tiny dot lines between celestial bodies such as the stars, the Moon and the Sun. Later, deeper in the caves, they found 716 remarkable and intricately carved discs of unknown origin, about 30 centimeters in diameter and one centimeter thick.

Following their discovery, the chief professor of the excavation, Professor Chi Pu Tei, was supposed to publish his find. Although this finding was initially ridiculed and ignored by his colleagues, it was eventually followed by the same university. Then, Dr. Tsum Um Nui took over and found that the stones had microscopic hieroglyphs on them. These were estimated to date back to at least 12,000 BC.

Even more interestingly, Dr. Tsum Um Nui put together the meanings of hieroglyphs and came up with an incredible story. It turns out that the markings were actually records of an alien race called the Dropa, which fell from space and crashed into Earth a thousand years ago. The accident killed most of those on board and the survivors took shelter in the cave to avoid being attacked by the locals, Ham. Despite their cultural and biological differences, these two species soon entered a state of peaceful coexistence but were unable to repair their ships. So they got stuck on this primeval rock that was our home.

Dr. Nui also wrote down his findings, but the Beijing Academy apparently refused to publish them. Disgraced by this research, the doctor later retired and disappeared in Japan.

At this point you may wonder what happened to the stones. Some are said to have been sent to Russia for examination by Soviet scientists, who tested them and confirmed some interesting properties about the metal from which they were made, but the discs themselves have since disappeared. In 1974 an Austrian engineer had to photograph both discs while in China. He even talked to the museum director about them, but a few days later both the discs and the director disappeared.

At this point, you may notice that the story is getting out of a narrative and taking on the air of a conspiracy theory. There is also no evidence to confirm any of these details. From the mysterious cave, the tiny aliens and their wondrous disks to the academics who researched them and lost careers as a result, there is no evidence of any information. None of these claims can be traced, and even though Tsum Um Nui is not a Chinese name, efforts to identify the doctor have yielded no results. There is no evidence that an alien spacecraft has crashed to Earth, or that a human tribe lives next to the survivors. There is indeed a tribe in Tibet called the Dropka, although these claims have also been absolutely refuted, despite claims that some of them were 1.2 meters tall and had oddly large skulls.

If you’ve ever wondered where this interesting story came from… The story appears to have been first published at various times throughout the 1960s and turned into a full article when published in a German vegetarian magazine in 1962. The story was republished in 1962, and in both cases the sources pointed to a media agency that wasn’t real.
