NAND memory technologies, manufacturers’ efforts to achieve more density in a smaller area continue at full speed. Micron is getting ready to set a new record with its full 232 layer NAND memory.

While 176 layer NAND memories are already available in the SSD industry, 192 layer NAND memories are also ready. Manufacturers, on the other hand, do not stop here and plan to exceed the 200-layer threshold.
Nvidia open source driver released
World’s first 232 layer NAND Micron, which produces its memory, plans to start volume production towards the end of this year. Two 128 layer crystals combine to form 232 layers. This paves the way for 1Tb TLC NAND memories.
It is estimated that 232-layer TLC NAND memories, which are stated to outperform existing 3D NAND memories, especially with PCIe 5.0, will be on the market in early 2023. Samsung has also developed a 256-layer NAND memory, but it is not yet commercially available.
