There are many prying eyes on Mars hoping to find evidence of alien life. The number one target of these eyes is, of course, the interesting rock formations that appear on the red planet. The last of these strange rock formations has also appeared in a recent NASA image. This image has of course sparked some amusing speculation, but sadly it has nothing to do with alien activity.
Strange-looking Martian rocks have always attracted attention on the Internet. Last Tuesday, discussions on a now-defunct Reddit page saw a door-like recess on the edge of a Martian hill have sparked discussion. The image came from a series of raw shots taken by Curiosity’s camera on May 7.
UFO of Interest, the debunker of UFO claims, shared a broader view of the landscape and discussed what appears to be “the entrance to a secret underground tunnel”. “As we watch in context as part of the whole mosaic, we can see that little niche in a rock along with other blocks, shards, shapes, and other abrasive features,” UFO of Interest wrote in a tweet Wednesday.

Mars images can often be misleading. An eroded rock may look like a fish, or a cliff may look like a human face. Cropped photos and zoomed-in views result in small features appearing large, which raises interesting theories.
