The European Southern Observatory recently announced that they will announce a groundbreaking new event on Thursday, May 12, by making an exciting announcement. While the groundbreaking discovery mentioned in the presentation was unknown, many people thought that the discovery might be related to the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way Galaxy.
That eagerly awaited announcement was finally made in the live broadcast that started today at 16.00 CET. Scientists announced that the discovery, which they described as ‘breakthrough’ in our galaxy, is a supermassive black hole, as expected. The supermassive black hole in our galaxy, whose first image was published today, was the black hole named Sagittarius A, discovered in 1974. Sagittarius A, imaged for the first time, is 4 million times more massive than the Sun.
- The black hole named M87, which humanity has seen for the first time, and the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A, whose photograph has been published for the first time.
