YouTube has started testing a new feature. The video streaming platform now offers both creators and users the ability to gift paid channel subscriptions. This feature, which is also available on Twitch, is being tested with a small group of creators on YouTube.

YouTube introduced channel memberships in 2018 so that content creators could earn a source of income other than the ads shown in the video. The company wants to bring a gift system to channel memberships with its new test.
A Google support page describing the test says that a single purchase can purchase a certain number of channel memberships, 5, 10, and 20, and can be gifted to other viewers in the chat during the live stream. Users who buy a gift membership will get 1-month access to channel membership privileges.
