Intel introduced its 12th generation Intel Core HX processors, developed for professionals who need high performance in laptop computers, at the Intel Vision event organized today. The flagship Core i9-12950HX, a member of the “Alder Lake-HX” family of processors that has been on the agenda for a long time, is the company’s first 16-core processor designed for laptops and runs at 5 GHz.

Intel’s high performance rhetoric may sound familiar, as AMD launched the Ryzen 5900HX in January, which it describes as “the world’s best processor for gamers.” While Intel doesn’t make a similar claim, it says this processor will make its way into the most extreme gaming laptops.

What do Intel Core HX processors offer? Stating that

HX series processors are a first in the industry with both unlocked and overclocked structure, Intel offered three different series to users. As you can imagine, 55 Watt processors with Core i5, Core i7 and Core i9 models offer options up to 16 cores and 24 threads.

While 8 of the cores in the processor are designed for high performance, the other 8 cores are efficiency oriented. Chris Walker, Intel Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Mobility Client Platforms, used the following statements about the new processors;

“You no longer have to wait for the processor to finish heavy workloads, you can continue using it. With these processors, gamers and creators will be able to access high-bandwidth technologies such as PCIe Gen 5 with RAID support and ECC memory that provides a high level of data integrity.”

HX processors support up to 128GB DDR5/LPDDR5 (up to 4800 MHz / 5200 MHz) and DDR4 (3200 MHz / LPDDR4 up to 4267 MHz) memory with ECC. The processors designed in accordance with WiFi 6 / 6E, which offers high-speed wireless data transfer speed, have a built-in graphics unit.

Intel said it expects more than 10 workstations and gaming PCs to launch in 2022, featuring the new processor. In addition, the company states that models such as HP Omen 17, Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 SE, Dell Precision 7770 and MSI GT77 Titan will come to much better levels with the Intel Core HX processor.
