AirTag, the lost and found device that Apple introduced to users at last year’s Spring Loaded event, has deviated greatly from its intended use recently. The device, which can detect the exact location of any object with its UWB chip, is also used for purposes such as human tracking.
Although important moves have come from Apple with AirTag despite unwanted tracking events, the latest developments are that the measures taken do not work very well. Finally, the device; facing a new problem that is causing concern in people.
AirTag worries people with ghost notifications
As it is known, AirTag emits a secure Bluetooth signal in the Find My network that can be detected by nearby devices. These devices send the AirTag’s location to iCloud, which shows the exact location of the device tracked over the Find My network on the map. It can be easily hidden due to its coin size.
According to the news of The Wall Street Journal, AirTag is now on the agenda with false reporting problems. In other words, although the person is not followed at all, they can also receive fake notifications that there is an AirTag device nearby. This causes people to feel unnecessarily worried that they are being followed.
How widespread and how long this problem has been present is unknown at this time. However, Apple is aware of this and has started working for a permanent solution. A company spokesperson also said that the problem could be caused by Wi-Fi signals temporarily interfering with location services. In such a case, a temporary solution can be provided by turning location services on and off while Wi-Fi is active.
