Formula 1 drivers have long been banned from wearing jewelery in races. FIA Race Director Niels Wittich also reminded drivers that it is forbidden to wear jewelery while driving before the Australian GP.
Indicating that metal accessories under the clothes pose a danger to a possible fire, the Race Director also warned the pilots about underwear. As of this weekend, the FIA has announced its updated review policy, which includes jewelery and underwear checks. The reaction to this published document was not delayed.

I think we’ve taken really big strides as a sport. It’s such a small thing. I have been in sports for 16 years and I have been wearing jewelry for 16 years. I only have earrings and a nose piercing that I can’t take off in the car.
