YouTube Go is being retired in August. The YouTube team has announced that it will be deprecating this YouTube app mainly because it has become redundant over the years.
YouTube developed the Go app for users with poor connectivity, mobile data, and low-end phones. The team says that since Go’s launch in 2016, YouTube has made a number of performance improvements to its core app, and that such an app will no longer be needed.
YouTube Go was originally available in India and Indonesia before exiting beta and being available for download in a stable version in 2017. It became available in more than 130 countries in 2018, so more users downloaded the 10MB app.
Now it’s time to say goodbye to this practice. It is being discussed whether this development signals that Android Go will one day be canceled as well. The Android platform can also be made to work efficiently on low-end devices over time.
