After Nvidia made its biggest move in servers with Hopper architecture, AMD brought its preparations to the final stage. Details of the next-generation accelerator, which is expected to be introduced with the name AMD Instinct MI300, have been revealed.

What will the AMD Instinct MI300 offer?

The AMD Instinct MI300 accelerator will be based on the CDNA 3 architecture for servers. This architecture is a customized version of the desktop architecture we know as RDNA 3, or Navi 30, for servers. Thus, it brings many improvements over the previous generation.

on AMD Instinct MI300 accelerator The interposer component, which transmits the connections, is located at the bottom with 2750 square millimeters. There are 4 rectangular and 6nm process input chips on it. These chips have connections to two HBM3 memories, IP blocks, I/O controllers, and cache. Connections to HBM 3 memory are made over 20,000 lines, which is double the Apple M1 Ultra connections.

On each input chip, there are process chips – GDC, which contain CDNA 3 graphics in the 5nm process. These chips are integrated with the 3D stacking method. Each GDC also houses two graphics chips. Thus, there are 8 graphics chips in total.

The AMD Instinct MI300 accelerator is estimated to contain a total of 28160 cores. Each graphics chip has HBM3 memory with a capacity of 24GB and a 1024-bit bus with 819.2GB/s bandwidth. Thus, a total capacity of 192GB is obtained.

The accelerator will come in 3 different models and it is the top model we mentioned above. There will also be models with 2 input chips and 2 GDCs, as well as 1 input chip and 1 GDC. There is also a PCIe Gen 5.0 power connector. The first months of 2023 are pointed out for the AMD Instinct MI300 accelerator, which will offer 150W-300W-600W energy consumption.
