Ferrari, one of the first names that come to mind when it comes to automobiles, has managed to produce many unforgettable or unforgettable cars such as the 288 GTO, Testarossa, F40 or LaFerrari throughout its 75-year history.
Ferrari F50, which was produced only 349 units, was among these unforgettable cars. In this content, we will look at the details that make the Ferrari F50 so special.
Ferrari F50 features that make it an unforgettable car:
Limited edition for Ferrari’s 50th anniversary
F50 model, installed in 1947 Specially produced for Ferrari’s 50th anniversary. Only 349 units of the F50 were produced between 1995 and 1997.
The design concept that makes it faster
Ferrari has created designs that will fascinate the audience in every car it produces. The F50 has one of those magical designs. This design, which is reminiscent of the previous model F40 by the famous Italian automotive design firm Pininfarina, came with many innovations that also contributed to aerodynamics, such as an improved rear spoiler. The two ventilation channels in the front were also developed for this purpose. In this way, the F50 has a design that makes it easier to cut air resistance and accelerates it even more.
Produced like a Formula 1 car
Ferrari, with a new project it developed in the 1980s, introduced some of the systems used in F1 cars into a car series called ‘Halo’. decided to move. This understanding, which was continued in the iconic models 288 GTO and F40, continued with the F50. The most striking of the parts of the F50, produced similar to the F1 cars, was the carbon fiber chassis.
Lightness meant everything to the F50
When supercars come to mind, one of the most important factors for a performance drive is how light the car is. Ferrari also produced the F50 with this understanding. The F50 weighs in at just 1,230kg. We talked about the carbon fiber chassis, this is the most important factor that provides lightness. The F50 was the first Ferrari to feature a chassis made entirely of carbon fiber. The manual opening of the windows and the absence of entertainment systems such as a radio are other factors that contribute to the lightness.
It got its engine from Ferrari 641
Of course, the Ferrari F50 gave the above-mentioned lightness its justification in performance. Coming with a 6-speed manual transmission, this Italian wonder produced 513 horsepower. This car, which has a powerful engine such as a 4.7-liter V12 producing 471 nm of torque, could accelerate from 0 to 100 in 3.8 seconds. Despite these data, the detail that distinguishes the engine of the F50, which we cannot call the fastest of its period, is that it is the road version of Ferrari’s Formula 1 vehicle, the Ferrari 641. Revision of the engine of a Formula 1 vehicle and using it in a road car was a big undertaking for that period.
GT model was also produced
Ferrari, just like it did in the F40, the already fast F50 to compete in GT races is also a ‘GT’ produced the version. The GT model featured a larger rear spoiler and front spoiler. Preferring to focus more on Formula 1, Ferrari did not pursue this project much.
