People looking for pirated websites on DuckDuckGo may have had a hard time finding them lately. However, it was explained that the reason for this was not a special choice of the company, as in the previous claims. Recently, it has been suggested that DuckDuckGo, a privacy-focused search engine and browser that often criticizes Google, removed results for pirated sites like YouTube-dl and The Pirate Bay.

However, company CEO Gabriel Weinberg says the problem is with search commands (like site:thepiratebay) and few users actually use this option. The tests also confirm Weinberg’s words. DuckDuckGo explains: “After reviewing the matter, our records show that YouTube-dl and The Pirate Bay were never removed from our search results when you searched directly by name or URL, as the vast majority of people do.”

Allison Goodman of DuckDuckGo says, “We’re having problems with the site: command with our site, but it’s not just those sites.” But right now they should all be available.”
