Sometimes you need to quickly record something that comes to mind (or what you hear during a call) and you only have your iPhone… In that case, the iPhone’s Voice Memos app will be just what you need.

Voice Memos application, as the name suggests, not only records voice notes, but also allows you to edit these notes and share them with whomever you want.

And you don’t have to worry that the Voice Memos app is too low quality or unprofessional. Taylor Swift, Adele and Mick Jagger revealed that they use the Voice Memos app on their iPhones to share song ideas or demo recordings with their work partners. Sometimes parts of these notes even turn into finished songs.

Just follow the steps below to record and edit notes using the Voice Memos app on an iPhone.

How to record audio on iPhone with Voice Memos app?

1. Locate the Voice Memos app, which may be in your phone’s Extras or Utilities folder. Below the icon it says “Voice Memos” and has an image of a sound graph.

2. Start the app and notice the big red circle at the bottom. Tapping this circle will start a new recording.

3. Tap the red square at the bottom of the screen to stop recording.

This is basically the registration process. But there are a few more features to explore in the Voice Memos app.

How to edit and export an audio file in Voice Memos?

To rename a record, tap the word “New Record 1” (we assume this is your first entry, the number may vary) and enter a new name.

To add more to your recording after pausing, tap the three blue dots next to it and then tap Edit Recording. Go to the end of the timeline, press Resume to resume recording. Make sure you scroll all the way to the end of the timeline, otherwise you will replace the existing recording.

To share an audio recording, export to apps or send it to others, tap the three blue dots next to a recording again and click Share to open the sharing options.
