Samsung surpassed its biggest rival Intel in the processor market in 2021 to take the first place with the highest revenue. Intel, on the other hand, took second place, down one notch.
Technology giant Samsung last became the leader in the semiconductor market in 2018. The company recorded its 2021 lead with 12.3% semiconductor market share and $73.1 billion in revenue.
Samsung has grown in all areas!
Growing in the processor area, the company also saw growth in other market areas. The company experienced a growth of 24.6% in the communications market with smartphones, and a growth of 34.6% in the automotive market.
Following Samsung, Intel earned $72.5 billion with a 12.2% share. SK Hynix continued in third place with 6.1% share, and Qulcomm continued in fourth place with 4.6% share.
On a country basis, South Korea achieved the highest growth with a total share of 19.3%, thanks to memory sales. China’s share of global processors fell from 6.7 to 6.5%. Huawei’s semiconductor company HiSilicon fell 81%. This decline resulted in revenue falling from $8.2 billion to $1.5 billion. According to the statements made by the analysts, the most important reason for China’s decline was the sanctions against Huawei.
The biggest factor in the growth of the 2021 processor market was the pandemic. People who were confined to their homes due to quarantine clung to technological devices and there was a great demand.
