Ukraine announced that Sandworm, a hacking group known to work for Russian military intelligence, attempted to hack an energy provider in the country but blocked it. The Ukraine Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-UA) shared that the initiative aims to decommission various infrastructure elements.
ESET and Microsoft helped Ukraine
Ukraine shared a post regarding a cyber-attack on the infrastructure of an unnamed energy company. It is stated that hackers managed to break into part of the company’s industrial control system, but the situation was brought under control without any power outages.
CERT-UA announced that the Sandworm group, backed by the Russian military intelligence agency GRU, is behind the cyber attack attempt. ESET security researchers, who helped prevent the attack by collaborating with CERT-UA, said the same group carried out similar attacks in 2014 and 2015.

Viktor Zhora, a senior Ukrainian cybersecurity official, stated in a statement that they collaborated with ESET and Microsoft in the cyber attack that used the new version of the Industroyer malware.
