The current and growing chip crisis continues to hit automotive manufacturers all over the world. We talked about the fact that the showrooms were empty due to this crisis experienced in the past days, and the disruptions experienced in the production of many companies.

With the growing effects of the crisis, automobile sales were also greatly affected. New car sales have dropped significantly compared to last year. Of course, it would not be right to attribute the reason for this only to the chip crisis. Increasing prices due to the economic situation in our country have a great effect on this decrease.

New car sales are in a great decline

Doğan Trend Automotive Assistant General Manager of Retail Operations and Suvmarket Uğur Sakarya, in his statements, explained how much sales are affected in the current situation in our country. revealed. According to the figures announced by Sakarya, new vehicle sales have fallen by 34 percent since March last year, while second-hand car sales seem to be on the rise. The majority of people prefer second-hand cars because their economic situation is not suitable for buying a new car. For this reason, while the decline in the sales of new vehicles continues, second-hand sales are increasing.

Sakarya said that he did not think that the increase in VAT in second-hand car prices from 1 percent to 18 percent would cause a negative impact on sales, and that this regulation would mostly affect the profits of dealers. He noted that current second-hand sales are about 40 percent higher than in February. In addition to second-hand vehicles, which had a higher sales rate than last year, another category on the rise was SUVs. Uğur Sakarya announced that SUV vehicles have started to be preferred more frequently in our country and the population of sedan cars has decreased. It is predicted that the rise of SUV vehicles, which is the most preferred segment according to ODD reports in recent months, will increasingly continue in the future.
