In the coming months, Android phones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 888 mobile platforms will be able to accurately measure location data up to one meter. Qualcomm plans to do this using Trimble’s RTX GNSS correction services platform. Smartphone manufacturers, service providers and app developers will be able to take advantage of this new and more precise location information.
Trimble and Qualcomm say they will improve Android location accuracy by five times. Trimble said the technology, which will be available in the second quarter of this year, could implement features such as lane-level guidance for vehicle navigation systems. It’s also thought to help users more easily find their shared drivers and set more precise destinations.
