Known for the small cars it produces, Smart broke its shell and came up with a different model. The company, which could not remain indifferent to the recently growing SUV market, introduced the electric Smart #1 model.
The model, produced in partnership with Mercedes-Benz and Geely, represents the new face of the brand. Bigger than all previous models of the brand, the Smart #1 is preparing to compete with models such as Kia Niro, MINI Countryman and Volkswagen ID.3. The German-based brand says hello to a different line in terms of design in its new model.
Smart #1 stands out with its dimensions and electric motor
Smart introduced its first model after half of its shares were purchased by Geely. Smart #1, which rises on the SEA platform developed by Geely for fully electric cars, has a 66 kWh battery pack. In this way, the electric model can reach a range of 440 km.
The single electric motor of the Smart #1 model can produce 267 horsepower and 343 Nm torque. In the future, we may see the new Smart model with different power unit setups. In addition to the rear engine, we have a good chance of seeing the Smart #1 with all-wheel drive with an electric power unit to be positioned in the front.
Larger than all other Smart models with its dimensions, #1 is also quite assertive with its interior. The German manufacturer claims that the new Smart #1 will offer much larger interior volume compared to its similar sized competitors. Smart, taking this claim to the next level, stated that the interior volumes can compete with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
Interior with traces of Mercedes-Benz
Smart #1 interior carries traces of Mercedes-Benz. The interior, which looks quite plain, manages to be interesting. Using quality materials and stylish lighting, the interior is complemented by a 12.8-inch infotainment system and a 9.2-inch digital display screen.
Emphasizing security, the brand also includes a 10-inch head-up display in its new model. Advanced safety technology such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and adaptive high beams are among the safety elements of the new model.
Production of Smart #1 will begin in the last months of 2022 and the first deliveries will take place in the first months of 2023.
