Mozilla Foundation is starting to accept crypto donations again, according to a blog post by Mozilla executive Mark Surman.

However, it was emphasized that they will not be collecting donations with crypto with a high-energy proof-of-work algorithm. This means that donations will not be accepted with Bitcoin.

Ethereum, which uses the proof-of-work algorithm, also plans to switch to proof-of-stake in the coming periods. After this update, it is estimated that Ethereum’s energy use will decrease by 99.95%.

Surman stated that cryptocurrencies using the proof-of-work algorithm can significantly increase pollution and prevent the foundation from meeting its climate commitments.

Mozilla will list the cryptocurrencies that will be accepted by the foundation by the end of the second quarter of 2022.

Mozilla, which started to accept crypto donations in 2014 at first, received a reaction from Firefox users with a tweet about the donation request at the end of 2021. The Foundation, which later canceled crypto donations, will now accept crypto donations again.
