Many mods have been released for GTA 5 over the years, but we can say that very few of them encourage you to exercise. But GT Bike V does just that by letting you connect a smart fitness bike to your PC and pedal through the virtual streets of Los Santos. You can even ride a bike with your friends with a new mode.
GT Bike V’s latest update brings multiplayer to GTA 5 mode. With your friends connecting their smart bikes or bike power meters to a PC, it is possible to roam the game together.
Currently, multiplayer interaction is quite limited. You can send chat messages and see the list of players participating in a tour, but other than that, getting together with your friends on bike rides as a group is the main function. There are currently no missions or competitive races to complete, but the GT Bike V team says they plan to add these features.
The mod’s multiplayer doesn’t use GTA Online. That is, you have to start the game in story mode and your online account is not affected in any way. It also means that the NPCs and weather conditions in your game are also local, so other players may not see the same things. While this is a bit odd, the mod’s dev team says it “doesn’t really affect the experience [too much], so don’t worry.”
Joining a multiplayer game also seems pretty easy. Just start the game with the mod installed, log in to your Rockstar Social Club account and select the “join multiplayer ride” option from the menu. According to the mod’s description, the one with the most players will automatically join the tour and you will be placed next to another driver, meaning you will never start the ride alone.
GT Bike V can even replace your regular workout. The mod saves your cycling data to a FIT file that can be uploaded to training apps like Strava to track your fitness. There are several tours to complete, each with different routes with different difficulties, so you can build a complete cycling routine.
Don’t think it will be an easy ride, though. The mod records the roughness of the ground you cycle, the slope of the virtual terrain, and even the in-game wind direction, and sends all this data to your smart bike to accurately reproduce the difficulty of your bike.
GT Bike V is available for free download. But to install and run the mod, you need to have a PC copy of GTA 5, a smart bike or device that meets the compatibility requirements, as well as an ANT+ PC piece of hardware that allows your computer to communicate with the bike.
