Ubisoft announced in December of last year that it added NFT to the PC version of Ghost Recon Breakpoint. . By integrating blockchain technology into the game, the company allowed players to own NFTs associated with cosmetic in-game items such as weapons and vehicles.

Breakpoint NFTs were items with unique serial numbers on them that could be sold outside of the Ubisoft platform.

Ubisoft’s game community, which started NFT sales in games, did not approve of this decision, causing the company to not achieve the desired result.

Content support for Ghost Recon Breakpoint has officially been discontinued just three months after Ubisoft announced it would be adding NFTs to the game.

Ubisoft Continues Interested in Blockchain Technology

Although Ubisoft stopped support for Ghost Recon, which was released years ago, it is still looking for other ways to leverage blockchain technology. The company launched the Strategic Innovation Lab with the Tezos infrastructure, creating a four-year research and development plan.

Ubisoft has also partnered with Ultra, a networked blockchain company built on EOSIO. Ubisoft will contribute to the testnet, including developments such as in-game asset creation, ownership transfers between players, and payment channels.
