We often hear about manufacturers playing benchmark software by optimizing applications on the mobile side without permission. The same issue occurs on the desktop side as well. AMD Adrenaline software is the latest example.
Blaming AMD Adrenalin software
According to the issue brought up by Igor’s Lab, AMD Adrenaline software is changing the overclocking protocols of the processor without the user’s permission. It is stated that this problem started after the Adrenalin 22.3.1 version, in which the overclocking controller Ryzen Master was integrated.
AMD EPYC Milan-X goes on sale
Software manipulates CPU PBO and Precision Boost settings without permission. In other words, it can adjust the maximum boost frequency by changing the power constraints. Even if the video card profile is at default settings, the situation does not change.
The interesting thing is that it only comes into play when AMD Ryzen and AMD Radeon chips are together. In other words, if one of the Intel processor or Nvidia graphics card is involved, everything continues in a regular way.
It may bother users who want to reduce energy consumption, especially by throttling the processor’s settings, but thanks to the integrated protection mechanism of the processor, physical damage is prevented. However, there is a possibility of upsetting the trader’s balance. Sources recommend changing the processor settings via BIOS or uninstalling the Ryzen Master component using Radeon Software Slimmer third-party software.
