It is known that Apple is working on foldable iPhone, iPad and Macbook models. So far, these projects have generally appeared in the form of patents or leaks. However, according to the news from the South Korean media, LG and Apple started to negotiate for foldable iPad and Macbook panels.

LG and Apple Shake Hands for Foldable iPad and Macbook

According to a new leak, Apple has started negotiating with the company for Gen 8.5 folding OLED panels newly developed by LG. One of the most important features of these panels is the elimination of wrinkles. As you know, many folding phone manufacturers, including Samsung, use polyimide-based folding screen films.

Very durable and high temperature resistant plastic-based polyimide, on the other hand, cannot prevent wrinkles on the screen. Some manufacturers use different techniques to reduce wrinkles. Again, glass-based folding screens are not as durable as polyimide.

LG and Samsung, on the other hand, managed to prevent this crease with their durable ultra-thin glass cover technology. In this sense, the LG Display OLED panel agreement for the foldable iPad can provide the high-end screen experience that Apple wants to offer to the end user.

Apple, on the other hand, is about to shake hands with LG, which it has worked with for many years on the display side, for new OLED panels. The main goal here is to negotiate with LG for the first OLED-screen Macbook Pro models, which are expected to be released in 2025.

The success of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold screen may pave the way for Apple to make an agreement with LG Display

Apple also sat on the table for the foldable Macbook model with LG Display. One of the main reasons for this is the durable OLED screen of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold. As you know, the X1 Fold has the first foldable laptop screen and was produced by LG. The newly developed ultra-thin glass-based screen by LG and Samsung will be much more durable than today’s foldable OLED screens. Meanwhile, LG has recently reached an agreement with HP to supply foldable OLED screens.

Although the pointer is in the direction of LG Display for now, it is expected that Samsung will adopt this new technology much earlier. Although Apple is targeting 2025 and 2027 for foldable iPad and Macbook models, there is a possibility of an agreement with Samsung.

Previously revealed details were that Apple is developing a 20-inch foldable iPad. In fact, this device was thought to be a folding iPad or Macbook. This latest leak revealed that both devices are actually on the agenda.
