A recent study conducted in the UK examined emissions from electric cars. The life cycle emissions of electric vehicles aren’t likely to decline until at least a decade later, according to the study.

The latest report by engineering firm Ricardo showed that electric vehicle emissions will fall by 10 percent by 2030. But not only production line changes and a greener power grid will help reduce emissions.

Electric car life cycle emissions will drop by 10 percent

The latest research on electric cars created by reviewing the UK market. According to the report, a standard electric car today saves 65 percent of greenhouse gas emissions compared to a conventional internal combustion car.

It will be extended until 2030 for electric vehicles to increase this savings noticeably. In addition to improvements in battery technology, battery production and lifetime of electric vehicles; Thanks to the more powerful battery, it will lead to 76 percent lower emissions than the internal combustion vehicle.

According to Ricardo, carbon emissions from electric vehicle production will change little by 2050. However, as the result of the 30-year process, the emission savings can increase to 81 percent, thanks to the fact that the factories are even more environmentally friendly.

The research also addressed hydrogen fueled vehicles. For example, by 2050, a hydrogen-powered truck could save 73 percent on greenhouse gas emissions compared to a conventional diesel truck.

Hydrogen-fueled vehicles could become an important option in the long-haul freight industry, as they can be filled in less time than their all-electric counterparts.

Regarding the new report to the UK Department of Transport, Ricardo Deputy Director Nikolas Hill said:

“We are all aware of the environmental benefits of driving an electric car. However, this study confirms that these benefits are also significant in the UK when considering the entire lifecycle of the vehicle from production to end-of-life.”
