Spotify will no longer be available in Russia from April

While Russia’s military attacks on Ukraine continued at full speed, many companies suspended their activities in Russia either for a certain period of time or indefinitely. Spotify, which previously closed its office in Russia indefinitely due to Russian attacks, is now closing the access of all its services in Russia.

Spotify, Suspends all services in Russia

A Spotify spokesperson, who wishes to remain anonymous, said in a statement, “Spotify is committed to providing reliable, independent news and information in the region. He continued to believe that keeping it up and running in Russia is critically important, and unfortunately, recent legislation that further restricts access to information, undermines freedom of expression, and criminalizes certain types of news puts the safety of Spotify employees, and possibly even our listeners, at risk. After carefully considering our options and current circumstances, we have come to the difficult decision to completely suspend our service in Russia.” In addition, a Spotify spokesperson said in a statement that the company will suspend its service in Russia, presumably in early April.

The law mentioned in the Spotify spokesperson’s statement came into force recently in Russia. According to this law, lies that will damage the reputation of the Russian military. People and institutions that make the news can be sentenced to prison. Pointing to this law, Spotify will soon terminate all its services in Russia
