As chip orders reach record levels with the pandemic, it also benefits casting giants. While the industry giant TSMC reaches record supply levels, it also produces at full capacity in advanced processes.
TSMC multiplies orders
According to the information from the industry, monthly plate shipments cast in the 5nm/4nm process have reached 150,000. It has increased by 20 percent on a monthly basis and up to 3 times on a yearly basis. The 4nm process has also started volume production.
Last year’s last quarter table in casting industry
It is stated that further N4P process and N3B startup process will start in the second half of the year. TSMC’s target is 40-50000 plates per month in the N3B process. N4X and N3E processes will also start in 2023.
TSMC is also increasing its revenues. 20 percent annual revenue growth is expected in the 7nm process. In further processes, however, the competition is quite high. It was discussed that Nvidia allocated a budget of 10 billion dollars for line allocation. It is stated that the top 3 performance-oriented manufacturers have allocated 3nm and 2nm processes. In addition, giants such as Apple and MediaTek are also allocated. Still, TSMC is unable to meet the demands and customers are lining up in hopes of an additional line opening up.
