Either you will choose one of the arcade games that you will be installed in the seat of hundreds of cars and have fun, or you will turn to simulations that are too good to leave the real world and that do not forgive any mistakes you make. Of course, we are lucky in Arcade, but when it comes to simulation, the situation becomes difficult. Especially in the console world, if we leave aside the simcades, until recently, there weren’t many options. Assetto Corsa Competizione, which PC players have enjoyed for many years in 2020, came to consoles with performance problems, but at least it changed this situation. Maybe those issues might have kept you from playing the game back then. But now we have good news for you. Assetto Corsa Competizione, one of the best racing simulators, has been re-released for the next generation in a reworked form. Moreover, those who have the previous version can upgrade to the new version completely free of charge. So we took the steering wheel off the shelf again and connected it to our Xbox Series S, and we decided to give this simulator a try, which is rooting even for real racers. The review may be a little late, but we did not want to evaluate such an ambitious simulation without giving it all justice. So, how is the new version of the game, let’s take a look at it together.
There is only the GT World Championship, but that’s enough
Like most people, we love motorsports. Unfortunately, apart from F1 games, there are not many options for those who prefer games based only on a certain racing class. It’s really hard to find a game as specific as this one. What’s more, it’s a great achievement to offer so much variety and high-level entertainment even in a single championship racer. For that, developer Kunos Simulazioni deserves a commendation. Assetto Corsa Competizione, which is very similar to the Project CARS series; It is a much higher level simulation than games like Gran Turismo, which shows up with the slogan “Real Racing Simulation”. This means that its use requires much more attention and is also difficult to master. ACC is definitely not a let’s go type of game. Because even if the driving aids are turned on and you have made the most ideal controller settings, other simulation games remain child’s play. This is not a bad thing, of course. After all, not every racing simulation is designed to appeal to a mass market. This is one of them. For true racing enthusiasts, it provides a solid and rewarding racing experience. This is the target audience planned by the developer. It would probably explain the situation better if we said that real racing drivers play ACC for training.
Such a realistic racing sim. hard to find
In Assetto Corsa Competizione every race feels really exciting and very realistic, the AI fights for every position on the track and does a great job. As someone who doesn’t have much simulation experience, we put a lot of work into catching up with the opponents in the races, it gets very difficult as you have to avoid contact for a good grade. As the sun goes down and the light fades, endurance races get even more exciting. You need to rely on your track knowledge and always pay attention, as the cold of the night lowers temperatures and makes handling a more important criterion. You should adjust your time varying braking distances and definitely be more aware of your surroundings. When darkness surrounds, transitions and defenses become more difficult and dangerous.
This level of realism dominates the entire game. Rain seriously affects the way you drive, and if you’re not careful, you should be as good as a rally driver when you hit gravel on a wide corner. In our experience, we have to admit that this situation mostly ends with the end of the race. The realism extends to tire pressures, meaning that if it’s too low, your race engineer will advise you to stay off the pavements in corners. If you want your race to run smoothly, you should really listen to it too.
PC performance approached in the new console version
Since Assetto Corsa Competizione sets the gold standard for simulation racing on consoles, players actually have a chance to participate in the virtual version of GT World Challenge. and allows players to compete on 11 GT3 championship courses, each carefully mapped with laser scanning technology for unmatched realism. However, as I mentioned at the beginning of the review, a steering wheel is almost essential to give the game its due. When played with a gamepad, the precision is almost guaranteed to make mistakes. With the gamepad, you often find yourself trying to pick up the car that slides out of your control. Especially if you do not want this to happen in the middle of the race that lasts for hours, it would be best to start with a steering wheel. Of course, I cannot say that it cannot be played with a gamepad, but this is a simulation and the ideal option would be a steering wheel.

Whether you choose to play career mode or customize your experience through championships, solo races of any length or online challenges, ACC will save you hours, it offers more than enough content to keep you busy for weeks or even months. The original console version of Assetto Corsa Competizione had some major issues. But its launch on Xbox Series X”S and PS5 effectively matches the PC version, bringing it to similar specs. It still has some weaknesses in terms of presentation and build, especially for new gamers, but once you get into it, it’s the best you can buy right now. one of the best racing simulators. Perhaps it was designed with hardcore racers in mind, but no matter how you play Assetto Corsa Competizione, an excellent and rewarding GT racing simulation experience is guaranteed.
