The UK defense secretary has ordered an investigation into the video call he received on Thursday from a fraudster pretending to be Ukrainian prime minister Denys Shmyhal. Ben Wallace explained in a series of tweets that the person concerned “asked a few misleading questions” during the video conference and stated that he ended the call after he got suspicious. The minister described the hoax as a “desperate attempt” and blamed Russia.
Wallace, in a tweet that did not provide any evidence and did not name any person involved, said, “Russian disinformation, distortion and dirty play cannot allow Russia to escape its human rights violations and illegal occupation of Ukraine. This is hopeless. an initiative,” he wrote.

The couple once called Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko, posing as the former president of Kyrgyzstan. They also tricked British Prime Minister Boris Johnson into making an 18-minute video call with an actor impersonating the Armenian prime minister.
During the meeting, Johnson talked about Britain’s plans for Russian President Vladimir Putin and the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal. While the Kremlin denied employing the duo, Russian state media often congratulated their actions.
