Microsoft Defender, the built-in antivirus solution in Windows, has given enterprise customers a nasty surprise. It shocked system administrators by detecting the Microsoft Office update released on March 16 as ransomware.
Microsoft added ads to Windows 11 File Explorer
It is stated that while trying to install updates for the Microsoft Office program suite, antivirus software interferes with the process and warns users of the danger of ransomware. Of course that was a false positive.
Incorrect code caused
In a statement by Microsoft, “As of the morning of March 16, customers have received a number of “ransomware-related” errors on the file system. “It may have encountered positive” detection. A recently deployed update has been found to cause a code issue that causes alerts to be triggered when there are no issues.”
The software giant stated that after receiving numerous complaints from corporate customers, the related problem was fixed by company engineers. After the immediate response, Defender reportedly no longer detects Office updates as ransomware.
