Facebook’s umbrella company Meta, announced that they detected a deepfake video of Ukrainian President Zelenski asking Ukrainians to ‘put down their weapons’ and left the platform.

President Zelenski’s deepfake video was first featured on a Ukrainian news site that was allegedly hacked, and the video soon began to spread rapidly. After it was realized that the video was fake, social media platforms started attempts to remove the video.
Nathaniel Gleicher, head of Meta’s Security Policy: “Our teams detected and removed a deepfake video claiming that President Zelensky had published a statement that he never made. This video is a violation of our policy against misleading, manipulated media. “We quickly reviewed and removed it. We also informed our colleagues on other platforms.” made statements.

The website Snopes, which describes itself as “a respectable reference for weeding out myths and rumors”, stated that the video was poorly prepared, and shared a few signs that the video was fake, with Zelenski’s head not appearing to fit well around his neck.
