A new type of malware has been detected in Ukraine. Discovered by ESET’s security researchers, CaddyWiper is the third malware detected in the country recently.
Cyber threat increases in Ukraine
ESET announced via its Twitter account that a new malware called CaddyWiper has been discovered in Ukraine. CaddyWiper is wiping user data and partition information from all drives connected to a compromised machine. The software has been discovered in a limited number of organizations and several dozen systems. It is stated that the new software does not bear any significant code similarities with other known malware.
ESET’s head of threat research, Jean-Ian Boutin, told The Verge: “We know that if the wiper works, it will effectively render the system useless, but at this point, it’s unclear what the overall impact of this attack is.” made statements.

ESET researchers recently uncovered two more malware targeting computers in Ukraine. These were the HermeticWiper malware discovered on February 23 and the IsaacWiper malware discovered on February 24.
