Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos will travel to space on July 20 with his aerospace research company Blue Origin. Bezos, who will be the first billionaire in space if nothing goes wrong, auctioned an empty seat on the rocket he and his brother were going to go to. At the event that took place on June 12, the result was clear and a citizen who bid 28 million dollars got the chance to accompany the famous businessman.

It has been announced that the lucky person to go to space with Jeff Bezos, his brother and the third person who bought the empty seat is the former US pilot Wally Funk.

He will be the oldest person to go into space

If the flight on July 20 is successful, 82-year-old Wally Funk will become the oldest person to travel into space. But its qualities are of course not limited to this. Funk is known as the first female investigator to serve on the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Investigative Safety Board. It is also stated that she is the youngest graduate to successfully complete the Women in Space program, which was started in the USA in the 1960s to provide astronaut training to female pilots.

Although Wally Funk and 13 of his female friends completed their education, the program was canceled and none of them could go to space.

Jeff Bezos, who shared his moments of space travel with Wally Funk on his Instagram account, asked Funk what his first word would be after he landed on Earth. “I will say this is the best thing that ever happened to me,” replied Funk, adding that he would hug Bezos right after.

Jeff Bezos, who also shared his own feelings, stated that he had been dreaming of these days since he was 5 years old.

Rocket can fly autonomously

With a carrying capacity of up to six people, the New Shepard Blue Origin rocket can fly completely autonomously without the need for a pilot. The rocket, which can carry a capsule to an altitude of 103,602 km, successfully passed several test flights without passengers, including at the company’s facility in the Texas desert in April. The capsule stands out with its huge windows that allow passengers to see the world in zero gravity for about three minutes.

Blue Origin launches vertically, also rocket and capsule can be reused. As the boosters descend vertically onto the concrete pad at the company’s facility in Van Horn, Texas; The capsules land with the help of parachutes.
