Twitter made a change on the home page with the new update it released for the iOS app. In 2016, the social media platform started to shape the homepage according to the user’s interests, and in this context, it decided to show popular tweets first. Before that, tweets were displayed in chronological order.

In response to this change, Twitter stepped back in 2018 and left it to the user’s choice whether to prioritize popular tweets or the latest tweets on the homepage. While it was possible to show the home page in chronological order by default until now, the company has changed this.

Twitter made chronological sorting difficult

With the new Twitter iOS update, which can be downloaded from the App Store, the “chronological sorting by default” feature has been removed. The company has not completely abandoned the chronological order. Twitter now consists of two different streaming systems, “Homepage” and “Latest Tweets”, and both show tweets separately.

Twitter has divided tweets into tabs called “Home” and “Recent”.

In the “Home” tab, you will see the popular tweets first, and in the “Recent” tab, you will be able to see the tweets shared by the people you follow in chronological order, as the name suggests. But the problem is that every time you open the app, popular tweets will appear by default.

If you don’t want to see two different tabs, you can make only popular tweets appear on your homepage by pressing the star icon in the top right corner and selecting “Unpin recent feed”. Unfortunately, the opposite does not happen. So, as before, the chronological order is no longer selectable by default.

Ordering tweets in chronological order is optional.

This update of Twitter received a lot of backlash. Users, who stated that they want to see the latest tweets first on the homepage, said, “Are we going to swipe right every time to see the latest tweets?” He expressed that this experience was unreasonable and called on the company to restore the old system.

Chronological sorting feature is also on the agenda of Instagram. CEO Adam Mosseri, in his personal social media account in January, said that they developed three different post sorting options for Instagram and that they will make it available in 2022.
