Canadian, Sebastien Vachon-Desjardins, accused of carrying out dozens of ransomware attacks in 2020, was extradited to the United States. Canadian police seized $28 million worth of Bitcoin in connection with the case.
Sebastien Vachon-Desjardins, 34, was charged in a Florida federal court for activities such as committing computer fraud, intentionally giving a protected computer.
Protected computers are computers used only by the US government or a financial institution.
Vachon-Desjardins, formerly an IT specialist for the Canadian government, was arrested in Quebec in January.
Canadian police found 719 Bitcoins and 790,000 Canadian dollars during a search of Desjardins’ home.
According to Canadian media, Vachon-Desjardins told the court that he stole more than 2000 Bitcoins during his career.
