Ukrainian authorities are investigating the possibility of moving their data and servers to another country, out of fear that Russia might steal top secret government documents. While the original plan is still to protect the country’s IT infrastructure, Victor Zhora, vice president of Ukraine’s information protection arm, explained that moving the most sensitive data to a safe location outside the country is considered a Plan B.

Ukraine has faced a series of cyberattacks last month, including infiltration of its military and energy networks. Russia also tried to interfere in Ukraine’s 2014 presidential election and regularly launched attacks on Ukraine. Attacks on the electricity grid led to day-long blackouts.

Ukraine has not disclosed details on where it will move sensitive government data. However, it seems that by shifting them to an ally country, it will be possible to keep them physically away from the Russian army and to better protect them against cyber attacks. The approval of the Ukrainian Parliament is required for the transport to be carried out.
