Amazon Studios and Sony’s PlayStation Productions unit are in talks to produce an action TV series adaptation of God of War, Deadline said. The news source reports that Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, known for their work on The Expanse and Children of Men, are involved in the project. Beyond these details, Deadline doesn’t have much to share about the adaptation, and neither Sony or Amazon have commented on the news outlet’s news.
God of War is one of Sony’s long-running franchises, spanning seven main titles across four consoles. The latest game in the series was God of War, presented in 2018, which acted as a reboot of the brand by introducing players to Atreus, son of the hero Kratos, and the pantheon of Norse gods. The sequel to God of War is currently in development by Santa Monica Studio and is expected to be released later this year.
If the series project becomes a reality, it will be the fourth game to receive a film and/or television conversion from Sony’s newly formed PlayStation Productions unit. The department currently has three projects that are officially ongoing. Perhaps the most notable of these is the collaboration with HBO to produce a TV series based on The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, and Nick Offerman.
