It turned out that Robert Pattinson himself drove the Batmobile in many scenes of “The Batman”. According to the movie’s production designer, James Chinlund, Pattinson, who plays Batman in the movie, which is about Bruce Wayne’s second year as Gotham’s Dark Knight, spent a long time behind the wheel, driving the Batmobile himself.
“Rob did justice to the car,” Chinlund told Insider.
However, he did not explain exactly what the “top speeds” were in this talk. Contacting the film’s special effects supervisor, Dominic Tuohy, who was responsible for the production of the Batmobile, Insider said that the powerful Chevy V8 Batmobile, with its 627 horsepower engine, easily reached a speed of 160 kilometers per hour.
Chinlund said that a “pod car” was used to shoot some Batmobile scenes. In this case, a cockpit is attached to the roof of the Batmobile, from which a stunt driver controls the vehicle’s steering. So even though Pattinson seems to be driving the car when the camera is focused, there is a stunt driver on top of the car doing all the work.
Chinlund added that the Batmobile is fast as well as agile. “The movie has one of the most inclusive chases we’ve ever seen in a ‘Batman’ movie.”
